We were there with my husband, and after walking, all we wanted to do was return to the hotel and spend some time relaxing in our room with an amazing view. I highly recommend this place if you don't like hotel chains or large places. We will definitely be coming back.

The history of the Hotel Casona Oaxaca dates back to 1896, when a well-known local inn adopted the name "Hotel Francia", thus formalizing its services at a time when Oaxaca was under the influence of the Porfiriato. During those years, the city witnessed a cultural and social boom, becoming one of the most prestigious destinations in Mexico, attracting important personalities from politics, art and literature.

Notable guests include the celebrated English writer DH Lawrence, who spent time in the legendary room 218 in 1925. Inspired by his stay in Oaxaca, Lawrence wrote some of his most important works, establishing the place as a refuge for brilliant minds.
